ESPN Debuts Ultimate Uplink Technology.

Posted on

ESPN Innovation Lab Dwight “Superman” Howard of the Orlando Magic got to be the guinea pig in a cool new interview technology apparently developed at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Walt Disney World.  Howard (in Orlando) talked with ESPN anchor Stuart Scott (in Connecticut) over what they have dubbed the “Ultimate Uplink.”

From the brief – and vague – “how it’s done” at the end of the video, it looks like this is done with green screens.  The image of Howard in front of the green screens is superimposed over the video of Scott at the ESPN studio.  The green surrounding Howard is obviously taken out.  Think of your local news broadcast and how the whole weather segment is done.  Only instead of interacting with a weather map, Howard and Scott are able to interact with each other.

It’s a very neat little trick, so check out the video and see for yourself.  It can be found by clicking the picture above or by clicking here.
